Baptism

Now why delay? Get up and have yourself baptized and your sins washed away,

calling upon His name. Acts 22:16

Baptism makes one a member of the body of Christ. Baptism incorporates us into the Church and gives us a rebirth as sons and daughters of God. The principle effects of Baptism are purification from sins and a new birth in the Holy Spirit.

The Catholic Church baptizes all ages. Parents who want their child baptized must be registered and active members of our parish. A preparation class is required and may be completed before the child’s birth.

Adults and older children (age seven and older) usually attend our RCIA process and are baptized during the Easter Vigil.

Guidelines for sponsors (Godparents):

The sponsor must be a Catholic who has been confirmed, has received the Eucharist and is leading a life of faith which befits the role to be undertaken. They may not be a parent of the one to be baptized. They must be at least 16 years old. There is to be only one male and one female sponsor, or one of each. A baptized person who belongs to a non-Catholic community may participate along with the Catholic sponsor, but only as a witness of the baptism.

If you are seeking baptism for yourself or for a loved one, please call our Parish Office 573-346-2716.
